Pastoral Care: A Shared Calling in the Methodist Way of Life

a closeup photo capturing two adult hands holding each other symbolizing love and support

In a recent chaplaincy blog post dated 29 July 2025, Anna Chaplain Kate Ellis reflects on her role within the Lincolnshire Methodist District. She beautifully describes pastoral care as “pastoral presence – being with whoever needs me, wherever that may be, for however long and for whatever reason. I listen, I talk, I offer to pray with people.” In Methodism, pastoral care isn’t confined to formal roles—it’s embraced as a shared calling among all disciples, rooted in the Methodist Way of Life.

This powerful insight reminds us that caring for one another, especially in times of need, is integral to living out our faith. It encourages every one of us—Lay and ordained—to nurture compassion and mutual support in our communities, echoing the heart of our calling as Methodists.
